to change the thermostat when u change the radiator
is probably a good idea. if symptoms persists after changing the radiator especially.
still smoking at the radiator cap after changing-out the old radiator for a new. (it's a cheap enough big place to start at least—the radiator).
but am not quite sure if it's still losing coolant though—haven't really driven round enough yet since last night, since changing the radiator...but hopefully not,—or, maybe hopefully so, actually, it might be easier—& maybe the smoke is just spilled coolant burning off. but there was definitely a leak in the old radiator, there were puddles of coolant all on the frame below it. plus u could see after u park.
but if u didn't know (didn't) that u have to "burp" the radiator afterwards. get all the air out of the system.
so it might be that too. new to this. not "burping" properly.
such that the upper radiator hose gets hot, but the lower stays cool. (though the car isn't overheating either).
the lower hose though, in which the thermostat is contained. which u might-as-well have changed. (and u might-as-well now). but u had no idea where it was, hid in some housing there at where the lower radiator hose attaches to the motor.
and if you're still losing coolant after that, changing the thermostat, radiator, and getting a new radiator cap. without anymore visible leaks especially. then u really going to have some work to do here soon. that head-gasket & timing belt job here quicker than u had hoped.
but look, it all might be connected to that intake manifold. (still lean on tip-in, boggy in the low gears—had concluded is maybe the missing muffler, not enough back-pressure, the o2 sensors). but the 2 coolant lines up there. is actually indeed probably a vacuum issue then. (not pulling up enough coolant). probably the intake manifold itself, tender on that stud you snapped re-attaching, not tightened down enough in that corner, a hard-to-reach bolt too. (maybe put some silicon on the seal, why not—& then make-sure that throttle-body back on correctly again too, has strong suction).
